It has been a week since I came to this new school as an exchange student. I have got used to the life here. Everything here impresses me a lot.

The school is big and clean. The buildings on campus all have a strong British style. They are very beautiful. My classmates are so friendly that they make me feel less homesick. Although I still have trouble communicating with them, they try their best to make themselves understood.

I’ll spend this period of study happily and I shall certainly benefit much from my stay here.

David was an earnest and hard-working windsurfer. His dream was to win the annual Teenager Windsurfing Race. To achieve it, he hardly missed any game or practice whatever the weather. After months of intensive training, the big day finally arrived! 

The beach was filled with enthusiastic spectators, including journalists and photographers. The public address system was announcing the names of the windsurfers, telling them to get ready for the race. David stood in line with other windsurfers, all of them moving nervously up and down on the waves behind an imaginary starting line. They all jostled for (争夺) the best position to start the race, and ended up so nervous that they ignored the ocean they were on. 

As soon as the starter’s signal sounded, David set off, so naturally and quickly. He pulled hard at his sail to race just ahead of the group. As he picked up speed and glided over the waves, he felt the familiar joy and freedom that windsurfing always gave him. All he liked was going to sea. With a cry of emotion that he could hardly contain, he rushed to the finish line.

“Go! David!” He heard a familiar voice. He looked around and saw his elder sister Jessica cheering him on in her speedboat. She waved to David, who nodded back in gratitude, though he knew she was too far away to see him. However, as he turned away, out of the corner of his eye, he saw smoke behind the speedboat on the shore. He knew that the smoke could tell him which way the wind was blowing, so he decided to study it for a while. Just as he was getting a better idea of how to use the wind to his advantage, he saw something terrible.

It was not just the smoke but a big fire! David couldn’t believe his eyes. The fire appeared to have started in a building and quickly got out of control. Desperate as he was for the championship, he felt he should do the right thing. With this thought in his mind, David decisively went off course and swung his sail towards a worker nearby. “Fire!” David shouted, pointing in the direction of the fire. After explaining the situation to the worker, he borrowed his cellphone and called the fire department. Then David breathed a sigh of relief and turned his attention to the race.

The other windsurfers were far ahead of him at the time. However hard he tried, he couldn’t catch up with them. Despite this, David didn’t regret having helped with the fire. Back on the beach after the race, David was immediately surrounded by enthusiastic reporters and photographers. Then came the announcement from the speaker system, “Though he finished in last place, David is our hero, who went off course to warn of the fire!” Then the crowd burst into thunderous applause. Some people even pushed their way through the crowd to present David with flowers, which lit up his face.
