看到mad和crazy这两个词,大家都会想到这两个词的本义:疯狂的。没错,这两个单词的基本字义都是:having a mind that does not work normally; mentally ill -头脑不正常;有精神病的。但是在日常使用时,通常指的并不是真的发疯,而是指类似发疯的、不理智的、不实际的行为。
You must be crazy to lend him money.
I’ll go mad if I have to wait much longer.
mad还常用于表示“生气的”,crazy也有此意,尤指“气得发疯的”。
(常用搭配:be mad at sb. 生某人的气)
The noise is driving me crazy.
He drives me mad with his constant criticizing.
(常用搭配:drive sb. crazy/mad 气得某人发疯)
这两个单词还可表示“特别热衷于某事、特别喜欢某人”:

He’s always been mad about kids.
I’m crazy about shopping.
I've been crazy about him since the first time I saw him.
